Dental Bonding Can Make Quite a Difference
If you have minor defects with your teeth that are not extreme enough to warrant dental crowns or veneers, dental or tooth bonding may be the way to go. Tooth bonding is an excellent way to correct a myriad of minor dental defects and can give you a beautiful smile in the process.
Here are some of what can be corrected with dental bonding:
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- Misshapen teeth
- Gaps between your teeth
- Stained or discolored teeth that don’t respond to tooth whitening
- Uneven size of your teeth
Tooth bonding uses a tooth-colored composite resin in small increments, building up the right contours and depth of the tooth. Dr. Shimizu will slightly etch the tooth to give it a good bonding surface with tiny grooves to allow the bonding to attach strongly and permanently.
When just the right amount of bonding has been applied to the tooth, a special light is used to cure and harden it. Dr. Shimizu will then test your bite to make sure you are comfortable, then he’ll polish the restored tooth. The bonding material comes in a wide array of shades so Dr. Shimizu is able to closely match the color of your natural teeth.
Dental bonding can be done on one or more teeth, depending on your particular needs and preferences. It can be combined with other cosmetic dentistry and dental restoration procedures such as replacing your old metal fillings with tooth colored composite fillings or replacing one or more missing teeth with dental implants. Tooth bonding is often a procedure included in a smile makeover.
Dental bonding is a relatively quick process which generally lasts less than an hour. It does not reduce the tooth’s original structure and is a relatively inexpensive procedure. If you have minor chips, gaps, uneven or stained teeth, give us a call and we’ll see if bonding is right for you.
